Our Cat "Kitty"
It's an interesting path that Kitty took to come live with us. Here is what happened: I have a cat, Jenny, for about 14 years. Jenny was just great, a friend and confidant. But, alas, Jenny went to cat heaven.
No cat lived with us for about a year. But what came to visit us where rats. Yes, real rats. Once day, I noticed some droppings in the kitchen. On the next day, I noticed even more droppings and the message was clear: we have roof rats. I set the trap on the next night, and sure enough, I caught the biggest rat. It was a horrible and gross experience.
I told my friend Frances about the cats and we comiserated about the rat problem in general. Her solution was to get another cat. I was ready!
Frances had taken care of a moma cat and her three kittens. The moma cat was a stray and adopted our elementary school to live there. She then had three kittens. All four of them were captured by Frances and "fixed".
Frances has a rare gift with animals. She is incredibly patient, knows how to handle them and can train them. One day she called and offers a cat as a solution to the rat problem. I was ready!
She brought Kitty over. Of course, Kitty wasn't called "Kitty" then - black mostly, with white fur on his stomage and his nose and four white paws, we had many options. Ultimately, we named our cat Kitty.
Kitty was simply the best. He came for love, he snuggled, he played and we had no more rats. Even when all the children played really rough with him, he kept coming back for more.
At three years of age, he was a mature cat. He also liked to roam. It's hard keeping a cat indoors when the cat wants out. So, if Kitty wanted out, he went out. Then he started sleeping all day and going out at night. Then he would stay out all night, then two nights, then three nights. One day, he didn't come back.
We were just crushed. The sad thing is that we don't know what happened to him. Was he dead or did someone take him? Did he find another home or was he lost? We put up the posters, did all the "lost cat" things - nothing.
We miss him so much. We went through a series of cats - none like him. More about that later.
