Nothing in the back means that you can push this tree for your cat into the corner of your room. We also like the wide base. This is a very heavy cat tree. The approximate weight is 100 lbs. The wide base and weight combined ensure that the tree will not flip over during normal use. This cat tree has 4 leaves. The 2 bottom leaves are larger than the two top leaves. Each leaf has a thermal liner for added comfort underneath the carpet. The sunflower center is also lined with a thermal liner adding more heat retention for your kitty. The total width of the tree is approx. 52". When looking at the picture, it doesn't seem that wide. However, the leaves are not exactly across from each other and when measure from the biggest leaf on the right side to the biggest leaf on the left - it's about 52". Our cat tree has four (4) holes for kitty to hide in an use for climbing. Leaves and petals can easily be replaced if your kitty (or someone else) destroys these parts. Sunflower Kitty Tree Base: Brown(one shade slightly darker than the tree trunk). We think a green like the color used for the underside of the leaves might look very nice darker brown for the base and would be a natural color. Another alternative would be to use a different color for the rim around the cat condo holes in the tree trunk.
